Navman S150 Review - A Closer Look

navman-s150-gps

The S-Series Platinum range from Navman contains some of the most attractive GPS devices available, and the S150 is no exception. Its brushed metal case and glossy black bezel exude sophistication, but as far as its function is concerned, just how good is this latest offering?

The answer is (in short) very. Despite not having the built-in traffic and FM transmitting capabilities of its older brother the S300T, this remains a very user friendly unit with its iPhone-esque touch screen interface and text-to-speech option.

The touch screen is gliding, rather than the multiple page screens we’ve gotten used to from manufacturers of GPS, and this comes as a welcome change. You can search using three functions- “go” “find” and “explore”. The go function will take you where you’re going, no questions asked. Conversely, the find function will list all establishments of a certain types in a set area. The explore function, which is particularly good, shows all of the POIs (Points Of Interest) within a certain radius; great for any potential sight seers. The screen is notably clear too, and lacks the fuzziness of some of its counterparts so you’ll have no problems reading it when in silent mode.

Landmarks and junction views are (usefully) presented in three dimensions, and the display shows the full quota of speed cameras, school zones, accident black spots and railway crossings (for your safety, of course).

All-in-all this product gives excellent navigational functionality, and does so whilst looking impressively suave on your dash. Almost a must-have.
